STORY OVERVIEW

The Dark Diva will tell the story of MARIA CALLAS, the most singular soprano of the 20th Century. It will answer the question: How did a young girl with no connections, no money, and no position in society become the world’s greatest Diva? A dark, lush, romantic thriller told in a non-linear narrative; this 8 episode, 1 hour long Limited Series from acclaimed director STACIE PASSON (THE SERPENT QUEEN, LITTLE BIRDS, CONCUSSION) will tell the story of Callas in a manner never before seen on television. Our creative team has access to private interviews, diaries and accounts from one of the main characters - making this a uniquely in-depth and personal story that will unlock both secrets and scandals. The series will do a deep dive into never before seen elements of her dramatic personal life - her rocky relationship with her overbearing mother LISA, her vicious rivalry with fellow soprano RENATA TEBALDI, her dramatic mid-career weight loss, and most significantly — her tragic and complicated life-long love affair with Greek shipping magnate and businessman ARISTOTLE ONASSIS.

Stacie Passon is an award winning American film director, screenwriter, and producer whose debut film CONCUSSION premiered at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival and earned her nominations for the Gotham Independent Film Award for Breakthrough Director, the Independent Spirit Award for Best First Feature, a GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Film, and a Teddy Award Jury Prize at the 2013 Berlin International Film Festival. Her recent credits include THE MORNING SHOW, THE SERPENT QUEEN, LITTLE BIRDS, DICKINSON, TRANSPARENT, THE PUNISHER, BILLIONS, WE HAVE ALWAYS LIVED IN THE CASTLE, HALT & CATCH FIRE, among many others.
